Happy Easter – A Time for Renewal and Reflection

Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays. It is celebrated in many parts of the world, and even here in Hong Kong where I have been travelling for work for the past 18 years, the spirit of Easter is alive. What fascinates me is that it is not only embraced by expatriates but also by locals. For example, Easter egg hunts have become extremely popular among local children, who delight in the fun and excitement of discovering hidden treasures.
Speaking of Easter eggs, I cannot resist mentioning chocolate eggs – my personal favorite. I have a special fondness for the “paaseitjes” from Albert Heijn in the Netherlands, especially the ones flavored with egg liqueur. They remind me that traditions, even when rooted in specific cultures, often carry universal themes of joy, indulgence, and celebration.
For many, Easter is deeply connected to Christianity and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Yet, the holiday is also rooted in older traditions. Long before Christianity, pagan cultures celebrated spring as a season of rejuvenation and renewal. Easter continues to carry this symbolism of new beginnings. Interestingly, the date of Easter is still determined by the lunar calendar, a reminder of how ancient rhythms of nature continue to shape modern life.
As an executive coach, I often reflect on how these themes of renewal and rebirth apply to our professional and personal journeys. Just as spring invites us to open our windows, breathe in fresh air, and embrace the promise of growth, Easter offers us a chance to pause and consider what “new beginnings” we might welcome in our own lives. Whether it is a fresh perspective on leadership, a renewed commitment to balance, or simply the courage to let go of what no longer serves us, Easter reminds us that transformation is always possible.

In today’s fast-paced business world, it is easy to overlook the importance of renewal. We focus on performance, deadlines, and results, often forgetting that true growth requires moments of reflection and restoration. Easter, with its blend of spiritual, cultural, and seasonal traditions, is a timely reminder that success is not only about achieving goals but also about cultivating resilience and embracing change.
So wherever you are in the world this Easter, I encourage you to take a moment to step outside or simply open your office window. Breathe in the air of spring. Allow yourself to feel the energy of rejuvenation, the possibility of resurrection, and the excitement of new beginnings.
Happy Easter – may this season bring you joy, renewal, and inspiration for the journey ahead.
